Steve Wright is leaving his afternoon show on BBC Radio 2 after 23 years.
The 67-year-old broadcaster announced the news live on Steve Wright in the Afternoon on Friday.
He said, “Let me pause to make an announcement. I will try not to get emotional or self-indulgent, this is going to be a little difficult.
“At the end of September I will take a break from the daytime radio. In other words, get out of this program.”
He added: “The good news is top to bottom. I’m staying with the BBC and radio doing some very exciting brand new digital projects and developing new podcasts, some of which will even feature elements of this program Steve Wright In The Afternoon.
“Anyway, everything will become clear in the coming months, because we will hold on to this program until the fall.”
