With the launch of macOS Ventura, Apple is even more focused on games on the Mac. Here are some ways gamers will benefit from the launch of Apple’s new operating system.
Gamers range from simple and casual games to big AAA MMO titles. Mac users are often second-class citizens when it comes to games, as many of the best titles aren’t available on the platform.
To date, Apple seems happy to ignore this reality. At WWDC, it didn’t show Apple’s face, but the iPhone maker made some important announcements that could show the bright future of games on the Mac.
The game gets better
One of the most important changes, though less noticeable, is Apple’s launch of Metal 3. Metal is Apple’s graphics framework that allows you to take full advantage of your Mac’s GPU. With the 3rd generation release, the visuals of the game should be significantly improved.
If you want the details to be geeky, Apple specifically states that MetalFX upscaling is possible.
MetalFX upscaling allows developers to quickly render complex scenes with low-complexity frames and apply resolution scaling and temporal antialiasing.The result is improved performance and a more responsive feel and graphics that looks great to gamers.
SharePlay with FaceTime
SharePlay excels on all Apple platforms this year, including the Mac. With macOSVentura, you’ll be able to jump into FaceTime calls while playing with your favorite games. If you don’t want to use FaceTime, you can also join the message chain.
Released as an accessibility feature, macOS Ventura enables the use of buddy controllers. This is the case when two controllers can be used in combination as one controller.
Speaking of controllers, the Logitech G920 and Logitech G29 steering wheels are now supported on the Mac.
Game Center activity feed
Apple has updated the arcade for Mac, the social backbone that connects players and friends. Now you’ll see an activity feed where you can see what others are playing and what you’ve unlocked.
Game Center also shows what’s new in Apple Arcade, your friends’ leaderboards, and unlocked achievements.
New game for Mac
Announced at WWDC, Apple has finally announced several large games that are migrating to macOS. The new titles are EA GRID Legends, Resident Evil Village and No Man’s Sky.
Some of these games are a bit old, but it’s still great to see them appearing on the Mac. Resident Evil and No Man’s Sky are incredible AAA hits that have been overlooked on Apple’s computer platforms.
Hopefully this indicates that larger titles will be available on the Mac in the future.
