Scotland fires 79 woman dead in North Lanarkshire house fire | UK | News

Firefighters were called to the fire just after 6 a.m. today where they rescued a woman (79) and two men, 82 and 50, from the flames. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the woman was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.

The two men were taken to hospital with serious injuries and an investigation is being investigated to determine the cause of the fire.

The fire took place in North Lanarkshire, northeast of Glasgow, on Glen Fyne Road.

A Scotland police spokesman told Lanarkshire Live: “We were called at around 06:25 on Friday 1 July following a report of a house fire in Glen Fyne Road, Cumbernauld.

“Emergency services attended and a 79-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene.

“Two men, aged 82 and 50 respectively, were taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

“Inquiries are underway to determine the full circumstances.”

Six firefighters and an air altitude device attended the scene early this morning.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said: “We were warned at 06:05 on Friday about reports of a house fire.

“Operations Control has mobilized six fire engines and an air altitude device. The fire was contained and is currently being extinguished. “

Firefighters remained at the scene this afternoon. SFRS senior officer for Lanarkshire Andrew Kenna told The Herald Scotland that firefighters were left to put out any hotspots.

He said: “We were warned on Friday 1 July at 06:05 about reports of a house fire. Operational control mobilized six fire engines and an air altitude device to Glen Fyne Road in Cumbernauld.

“The fire has been contained and teams are currently extinguishing any remaining hotspots.”

He added: “An unfortunate woman died at the scene and two injured were taken to hospital, and our thoughts remain with all those affected during this difficult time.”

Police had earlier announced that the road was closed and urged people to avoid the area.
