Bringing fast EV charging to a poorly serviced community in California

One of the biggest challenges in the transition to electric vehicles is to make the transition as fair as possible. Like most new technologies, EVs are offered at a premium (at the cashier-not the entire life of the vehicle). In general, new cars are upper middle class purchases, or at least middle class purchases (depending on the situation). The good news is that more and more EVs are arriving in the used car market. With sufficient depreciation, EVs are a great option for reducing shipping costs. However, apart from cars, EV drivers need a place to charge, and many of the underprivileged parts of the general public have no way to charge at home. Collaboration in California is working to improve the situation for these people and make electricity easier to use.

Specifically, the program is being implemented by Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG & E), California’s largest power company. EV Connect, the leader in EV charging, has acquired the first two projects under a commissioned program. This includes eight tritium 50kW DC quick chargers located between the United Park Convenience Store in Chowchilla, CA and the SWS Fuel Management Convenience Store in Madera, CA. In total, EV Connect will deploy over 40 DC quick chargers through this program. This includes medium power 50kW chargers as described above and fast chargers with power capacities up to 180kW. In total, 10 sites have been awarded for EV fast charging deployments, 8 of which are currently pending implementation.

“As a vendor EV fast charging program EV Connect of Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG & E) works with power companies and partners, including Gilbarco Veeder-Root, one of the world’s leading fuel suppliers, and convenience store equipment and technology manufacturers. We have identified the site and deployed a charging station. EV Connect writes.

For sites that have just been announced that EV Connect has installed chargers, the reason for choosing them is, of course, related to fairness. That is the point of the program. “The SWS fuel store was chosen because of its 24/7 business hours, economically disadvantaged community location, and proximity to State Highways 99,” adds EV Connect.

Rajdeep Singh, Manager of SWSFuel, said: “This collaboration positions us towards the adoption of larger EVs and directly supports our mission to build a cleaner future for transportation in California.”

This program has been created over the years. In 2018, the state utility regulator, the Public Utility Commission (CPUC), approved a $ 22.4 million PG & E plan to expand electric vehicle charging in particularly disadvantaged areas. Four years later, we are beginning to see the results. In total, the goal is to install 200 DC quick chargers, at least 25% of which are in underprivileged areas. In addition, qualified program participants have access to additional rebates.

Here are some EV Connect suggestions on why we are the best partners in this program: “EVConnect provides PG & EEV Fast with certified charging hardware, installation, operational support resources, and an industry-leading open standards-based EV charging network management platform. Charging program participants. Through automated data reporting. , Program participants who choose EV Connect can benefit from the company’s extensive project management experience, co-marketing, and compliance with utility requirements. With EV Connect, participants can benefit from multiple manufacturers. Choose from a variety of electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) for centralized management and monitoring with advanced charging station analysis using the EV Connect platform. The EV Connect platform anticipates advanced grid management requirements such as demand response and opens ADR. It also features standards compliance.
