An old bookshop is up for auction for £75,000 with a new surprise inside – it’s packed with hundreds books.

Not only can book lovers across the UK get their hands on the three-bedroom masionette, but the impressive collection of books is also included in the deal.

So if you want to indulge Notting Hill or You’ve Got Mail dreams, maybe this is the property for you.

The two-room bookshop is on the ground floor of a South Wales building.

The property is located in the historic town of Blaenavon in South Wales, which also happens to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The flat and bookshop are just meters from an ironworks, a historic railway line and a coal mine museum.

And auctioneers say the property is already attracting book-loving investors.

Debra Bisley, of Paul Fosh Auctions, said they’ve already attracted interest from people intrigued by the area, which is steeped in history from the start of the industrial revolution.

She added: “On the ground floor is the bookshop with two rooms. The mass of books in the store is included in the sale.

‘The top two floors form a maisonette with three bedrooms that can be reached via the shop or via the entrance at the rear of the building. In addition, there is a standing height basement and a large attic.’

Blaenavon was launched as a book town in 2003 to rival Hay on Wye.

A book town is a small rural town or village filled with second-hand and antiquarian bookshops – a concept created by Richard Booth of Hay-on-Wye in Wales.

The former bookstore, which closed in 2021, is located near the Big Pit tourist attraction and Blaenafon Cheddar Co, which matures its cheeses in the former pit.

The auction will take place from 7 to 9 March.
