A man charged with committing 100 sexual crimes against a boy

A man charged with committing 100 sexual crimes against a boy appeared in court.

His crimes are said to have occurred in various parts of Kilkenny between 1995 and 2006, when eight boys were between the ages of 11 and 17.

The man, who could not be named for legal reasons, was arrested and charged before sitting in the Kilkenny District Court on Tuesday morning, Garda said in evidence.

Judge Cephas Power heard that the prosecutor’s office had instructed him to send the matter to the Central Criminal Court for trial.

The man’s lawyer, Ed Hughes, applied for bail in court, stating that “all allegations have been completely denied” by his client.

Garda’s objection to bail was explained in detail in court, including the seriousness of the crime and fear of leaving the jurisdiction of a man who was a British citizen.

The man has been charged with 46 rapes and 54 sexual assaults.

The court heard that there were eight plaintiffs. Six of the boys are said to have experienced persistent oral and anal sexual abuse. Two more boys claim to have committed numerous assaults between 1999 and 2001.

Everything was between the ages of 11 and 17 when the alleged crime occurred.

All petitioners identified men charged at two different addresses as neighbors.

Garda is alleged to the court on evidence that the abuse took place in many places, including two men’s homes, a garden hut, Jenkinstown Park, two different alleys, outside a national school, and St. Luke’s General Hospital. Stated. He was an employee at the time. He is no longer working there.

According to Garda, many petitioners independently identified the same location.

Before and after the incident, the boys were offered cigarettes, sweets, money, or a combination of all items by the accused.

Garda said some of the boys claimed that the abuse had taken place in the car. Everyone was explaining the car that Garda said was registered with the defendant at the time.

The court was told that the defendant no longer lives in Kilkenny.

Gardai validated the allegations using records from the Kilkenny County Council, HSE, schools, medical and employment records.

Hughes said the allegations date back 20 to 25 years. During the investigation, which began in May 2021, his client has always attended visits with Gardai. Gardai has traveled to a man’s house for the past few weeks to arrest him, but he couldn’t because he was suffering from Covid. I went to court on Tuesday by arrangement. Hughes said this is an element of trust.

The lawyer said his client left the house after Kilkenny was injured, and he was worried about his safety. He is currently living with adult children in another county.

He has lived in Ireland for 27 years and has a family bond here. He wasn’t in Britain, the lawyer said.

Hughes also argued that there was a long delay before the case was heard in the Central Criminal Court.

He said there was a mechanism to bring him back if his client traveled to the UK.

The judge said the defendant had been involved in the prosecution so far, but “his position has changed significantly” from the interviewed person to the indicted person.

Judge Power said these were very serious crimes.

He refused bail and remanded the man to Cloverhill Prison on Thursday, June 30, to appear in court via Videolink.

Legal assistance was given.
