Activision Publishing has shut down a long-awaited mod intended to recreate the multiplayer experience of 2009's Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. The H2 Multiplayer (H2M) Mod was set to go live on August 16, 2024, but the team received a letter from Activision a day before launch telling them to shut down the mod.
The H2M mod was built to run the PC version of Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered. Like other High Profile ModsH2M planned to release a gameplay experience that would rival a full title or DLC. Players would have access to both 2009's MW2 and MWR's maps, a fresh take on MW2's prestige system, and more.
The excitement over the H2M mod has already led to sales for Activision. According to Steamcharts, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered reached its highest peak on Steam since its launch in 2017. Notably, the title was on sale for 50% off from August 5th through August 14th, sitting at number three on Steam's top sellers list.
This move isn't all that surprising for Activision. The publisher included an equally ambitious mod, SM2, in May 2023.
