Add and organize apps in Android Auto

The last thing you want to do while driving is scrolling through your car’s display in frustration, trying to find the right app or searching for the right destination. Instead, save yourself the distraction by pre-organizing your Android Ando apps. You can even create shortcuts for specific directions or contacts to call. Here’s how to add and arrange apps in Android Auto.

Add apps to Android Auto

After downloading the apps you want to use, open Android Auto on your smartphone and select Customize launcher below the General settings.

From there, you will see a list of compatible apps. Check the box next to the one you want to show on your car’s display while using Android Auto.

Organize your Android Auto apps

Open Android Auto on your phone and select Customize launcher below the General settings.

From there you can sort the order of your apps alphabetically or in a custom order by selecting Sort Launcher. If customized, just tap and hold the dots next to each app to rearrange them in the order you want them to appear on your car’s display.

Maybe you want to create a custom shortcut app, like calling someone specifically or navigating to the nearest Starbucks with the tap of a finger? To do this, select Add shortcut to the launcher and choose your desired type.

For example inside Assistant Command, type an action such as “read my messages” and add a name for the action. you can hit Test assignment to see how it works when connected to Android Auto.
