Adele says response was ‘brutal’ after postponing Las Vegas residency

Adele revealed that the public reaction to the postponement of her Las Vegas shows was so intense that she felt like a “shell of a person” for the following months.

At the start of the year, the 34-year-old Easy On Me hitmaker informed fans that she had postponed a lucrative run of shows at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace after delays due to Covid meant it was “not ready.”

While people sympathized with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic continuing to impact the delay in services and crews receiving the virus, many were disappointed that the announcement came so late.

Frustrated fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts, writing: “Not everyone will be able to attend again, plus travel and hotel costs. Can’t you just sing something yourself, show a DVD and talk to people about your life/career? That would be better than cancellations. Also, all shows etc. are currently all over the world for now.’

Following the announcement, Adele shared a tearful apology, stressing that everyone has “tried absolutely everything to get it together on time and make sure it’s good enough.”

Appearing on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, the megastar said she “definitely felt everyone’s disappointment” but believes she made the right decision.

“It was terrible and the reaction was brutal. I was a shadow of a person for a few months,” she told presenter Lauren Laverne.

“I was afraid of letting them down and I thought I could combine it and make it work, but I couldn’t,” she told DJ and host Lauren Laverne.

“I support that decision. I don’t think any other artist would have done what I did, and I think that’s why it was such a huge, huge story.

“It was like, ‘I don’t care’ and things like that. You can’t buy me. You can’t buy me for nothing. I’m not just going to do a show because I have to or because people will be disappointed or because we’re going to lose a lot of money. I’m like, ‘the show isn’t good enough,” she added.

When asked how she handled the investigation, the Something Like You singer said she should “just wait it out and just mourn it.”

According to TMZ, sources have revealed that the singer and her team are having “serious conversations” and will be doing the show at the Zappos Theater, with performances starting in a few months.

The target for the shows schedule is also reportedly a late summer start, which will run until the end of 2022.

The publication cited a slew of other “serious benefits” for the singer, including a “big cut” in ticket sales; and “complete creative control” over the show.

On Friday night, Adele made a glorious return to the stage for the British Summer Time festival in London’s Hyde Park.

Last night, Adele performed in her own country for the first time since 2017 and surprised the audience with all the hits, from Rolling in the Deep to the great hit Easy On Me from her latest record 30.

Her son Angelo was in the audience cheering on his mother, as were famous friends James Corden and Tom Cruise.

The 34-year-old returns to the London park tonight for a second round, with special guests Kacey Musgraves and Gabrielle on the bill.
