If you are a homeowner in London with a guest room over the King’s coronation weekend, then it might be worth listing it on Airbnb.

To accommodate the massive influx of tourists expected to flock to the capital, the site has launched a bonus incentive to encourage eligible Londoners to host guests.

As well as the usual profit you can make renting out a room, Airbnb has said it will give £100 to those who sign up to host on Saturday, May 6 – but there are a few terms and conditions to note.

Firstly, the bonus will take the form of a travel voucher, giving you £100 off your next holiday through the site. It cannot be exchanged for money.

Second, the schedule is also only available to the first 40 new hosts who sign up for the King’s Coronation, so you’ll need to step up to it if you’re interested.

Last year, Airbnb hosts in London collectively earned more than £7.1 million during the Platinum Anniversary celebrations, according to the site, with the typical host earning just over £500 between June 2 and June 5, 2022.

How do I participate in the bonus scheme?

To be eligible, you must be one of the first 40 new hosts in London to register their free space to welcome guests in May

You must also have an ‘eligible stay’ – that means have published a new listing on Airbnb, have a minimum booking value of £50 and be located within the following postcode areas:

E, EC, N, NW, SE, SW, W and WC and BR, CM, CR, DA, EN, HA, IG, SL, TN, KT, RM, SM, TW, UB and WD

Next, you need to click on the link for creating a new listing on the dedicated landing page: www.airbnb.com/e/2023coronation

Once everything is confirmed, you will receive your £100 coupon within 20 days from the end of May 2023 to the email address associated with the Eligible Hosts’ Airbnb account.

“As the festivities sweep across the UK and families visit their loved ones during the extra holiday, Airbnb offers a unique opportunity for locals to take advantage by opening up their homes,” said Amanda Cupples, general manager for Northern Europe at Airbnb.

Home sharing helps cities use existing space to scale up capacity and welcome visitors during peak demand. It enables the local population to provide sustainable and affordable accommodation, which benefits the local economy.’

For those interested in sharing their home with guests during the King’s coronation, Airbnb lets you list your home Airbnb configuration.

This means you can choose to host an experienced guest who has a minimum of three stays and a good track record on Airbnb – to ensure you have a great first-time experience.
