Bharti Airtel, a leading telecom operator in India, together with the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) has announced the launch of WhatsApp Banking services for customers across India. This would allow users across the length and breadth of the country to use WhatsApp for online banking. WhatsApp has several hundred million users in India, and banking with WhatsApp would become very useful for Indian users. WhatsApp is already used by many major companies to offer services and products directly to customers in India.
In the release, Airtel said that the WhatsApp messaging solution would be delivered to the customers through Airtel IQ – a cloud communication platform as a service that allows brands to communicate with their customers through SMS, voice and WhatsApp channels. For those who don’t know, Airtel is the first company in the world to serve as a business services provider (BSP) for WhatsApp.

IPBB customers can now easily bank via WhatsApp. Several key banking services that users may need on a daily basis would now be available on WhatsApp for IPPB customers. Services such as doorstep service requests, finding the nearest post office and more would be available to IPPB customers on WhatsApp.
What is also great about this service is that it supports interaction in multiple languages. This would add convenience for users banking online from the rural parts of the country.
Abhishek Biswal, Head of Business – Airtel IQ, said, “Airtel IQ is a robust, intuitive and secure cloud communications suite. With the addition of WhatsApp messaging to the existing SMS and voice communications we offer to India Post Payments Bank customers, we will establish a two-way communication between the bank and their customers. We are pleased to continue our partnership with IPPB to significantly contribute to making banking services more accessible to tier2,3 cities in the country.”
IPPB and Airtel IQ are working to further integrate a LIVE interactive customer support agent into the WhatsApp solution, giving customers 24×7 access to support and quick solutions to their queries.
