Passengers aboard an Alaskan cruise ship experienced a horrifying moment that might have reminded them of the Titanic – they hit an iceberg.

According to the cruise line, Norwegian Sun’s ship traveled along the Hubbard Glacier in Yakutat Bay on Saturday and collided with the “Growler” iceberg. Passengers described Growler, an iceberg with less than 3.3 feet of ice on the surface of the water, as the size of a semi-truck.

Immediately after the shock, it was videotaped by passenger Jennifer Lopez, who was jogging on a running track when she was knocked down.

“It was a pretty big blow,” Lopez told her Foxweather.

Despite being shocked, Lopez went to the edge of the ship and began recording the remains of icebergs floating in the sea.

“It looks like you sliced the glacier in the middle,” Lopez added, adding that her clip showed only part of the iceberg.

Another passenger, Alicia Amador, told the Juneau Empire that she remembered hearing a “loud noise” when the ship crashed into an iceberg.

“The whole boat stopped completely from the shock,” she told the newspaper. “It was a terrifying experience.”

Instead of continuing the planned route to Skagway as part of the 9-night trip, the ship was rerouted to Juneau for evaluation. It arrived in Juneau on Sunday night and passengers were allowed to rest for several hours.

According to the United States Coast Guard, the front right side of the ship was damaged.

“A diver who contracted with a member of the Coast Guard’s Juneau Prevention Team assessed the damage and thought it would be sea-resistant to go to Seattle’s homeport for repairs,” said a Coast Guard spokesman. I did.

The ship was allowed to return to Seattle after mooring in Juneau for two days – slowed down.

According to the Coast Guard non-commissioned officer First Class Nature Torsion, cruise staff did not request assistance in search and rescue operations, and no injuries were reported.
