Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones denounced a reporter outside his trial for defamation for spreading false claims that the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting was staged.

“You act like you’re a journalist and you want to look at people like me so you can say you’re the right guy,” the Infowars host said. Huffington Post journalist Sebastian Murdock.

The right-wing commentator added that the reporter was a “failed, Soros, corporate, propped-up media” member and “pirate,” claiming the defamation lawsuit meant the “corporate media are on trial, and so are the counterfeit judiciary. .”

The eruption on Wednesday was the last bit of theater from Mr Jones, who on Tuesday called for protesters to gather at the Austin courthouse where the trial is taking place. The judge presiding over the case has also admonished Mr Jones for his diatribes during courtroom breaks, which may be within earshot of the jurors.

The independent has contacted Mr Jones and Mr Murdock for comment.

Wednesday marked day two of the trial, which will determine how much damage the Infowars host owes to the parents of victims of the Sandy Hook shooting after falsely claiming the massacre did not take place.

Families are seeking damages of up to $150 million for what their lawyers called a “massive campaign of lies” that “platformed savage extremists on the fringes of the internet … who were as vicious as Mr. Jones wanted them to be”.

Mr Jones has said he was only repeating the false claims of others, dismissing the case Tuesday as a “constitution-destroying, absolute, utter and complete mockery”.

Wednesday’s questioning focused on internal deliberations and how Infowars chose to broadcast false claims that the shooting, which killed 20 first-graders and six teachers, was a “false flag” attack.

Lawyers for the families angered Infowars producer Daria Karpova over sensational slogans in the network’s reports, such as “Crisis actors used at Sandy Hook! Special Report’ and ‘Revealed: Sandy Hook Truth Exposed’.

She told the court the titles were “intended to grab a person’s attention so they can see the video,” saying it’s a practice used by other more mainstream news outlets.

More controversial was how Infowars regularly booked an extremist named Wolfgang Halbig as a guest to speak about the shooting, although staff had warned that he was untrustworthy.

“Until they answer those questions, I can tell you that on December 14, 2012, no children died, teachers did not die,” Halbig said in an Infowars clip played during Wednesday’s proceedings.

Out of the blue, the 75-year-old harassed parents of Sandy Hook victims, writing to a family of a student with autism who died in the shooting, that “she needed you to protect her from all serious health risks. That filthy and deplorable school with all that toxic waste, we call this child endangering.”

Ms Karpova, the producer of Infowars, defended the show, telling the judges, “The great thing about Alex Jones’ show is that it’s a live show, it’s not scripted,” and producers “let the public decide” whether to stay tuned in to a particular guest on the show.
