The Ansaru terrorist group has threatened to kill prisoners from the Kaduna-Abuja train they attacked in March 2022.
Daily Trust reported that the threat was relayed in an audio that went viral yesterday, July 5.
A member of the group reportedly threatened to slaughter the victims because the government had not demanded their release.
A Kaduna-based publisher, Tukur Mamu, who was an intermediary between the group and the government, confirmed the audio’s authenticity, saying the audio was genuine and that the group had repaired Wednesday (today) to carry out the threat.
He said;
“These people were provoked on Monday after they gave us another chance. I was crying and begging them on audio that since there is a government delay why they can’t discuss directly with the relatives to negotiate the release of the victims. So based on the plea, they agreed to negotiate directly with the victims’ families.
“But they said they will give us until Wednesday that if there is nothing concrete from those who are interested in negotiations, they will slaughter some of the victims.”
This comes after it was reported that one of the victims had been seriously injured after being shot by one of the kidnappers, which they claimed was an accidental discharge.
