APC denies rumors of raising N6.5tn to bribe voters and INEC officials

The All Progressives Congress has denied rumors of the N6.5 trillion increase to raise the 2023 general election.

The claim was made in a document entitled “Leaked APC 2023 Election Document”. It was alleged that the money was for voting and bribery of security agents at voting units, judiciary and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

In response, the APC accused the Peoples Democratic Party of being the mastermind behind the rumor.

APC’s national publicity secretary, Felix Morka, said in a statement issued by the party’s secretariat in Abuja on Monday, June 27, that it was a ‘senseless’ attempt to dump the APC.

Morka also said the document clearly betrays the authors’ extreme ignorance about the complexity of the systems and processes for the appropriation and use of state funds.

He said;

The attention of the All Progressives Congress is drawn to a document described in circulation as a “leaked APC 2023 election document.”

“Evil, the document claimed that our party voted a whopping N6.5 trillion to fund schemes aimed at swinging Nigerian voters to support and vote for the party and its presidential candidate in 2023. Ridiculous, too, the document claimed that obscene amounts of money were voted for outright vote-buying; dedication INEC staff; security operations; judicial officers and other officials.

“The APC wants to firmly put on record that the document is not from the party. We have not written or owned such a document, and it certainly did not stem from our party.

“The document is undoubtedly the handiwork of very ill elements of the opposition PDP in a desperate search for undeserved election advantage by trying to smear our party with wrongful conduct.

“How in the world does a government that operates a national budget of N17 trillion distribute N6.5 trillion to manipulate elections? Our party is focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to Nigerians in the hope that they will reciprocate by supporting our candidates and voting in the 2023 election.

“We are a law-abiding party and have no need to get involved in any election fraud and malpractice proposed in that worthless document. Only a party that is a masterful looter of the national treasury, such as the PDP, can even propose another who is capable of engaging in the kind of heinous acts that the document proposes.

“We call on Nigerians to ignore the document as cunning propaganda for which the PDP has gained notoriety. The APC remains committed to building an innovative system of free and credible elections as evidenced by the recently concluded Governor-General elections in Ekiti State.
