Apple Music has a new extra called Apple Music Sing, which allows subscribers to sing along, replace the lead singer, or perform a duet.

Apple has announced a new Apple Music service, but it’s not the classic one it’s been promised before the end of the year. Instead, it’s Apple Music Sing, which uses Apple Music lyrics to provide a karaoke-like experience.

“The Apple Music lyrics experience is consistently one of the most popular features of our service,” said Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Music and Beats. in a statement. “We already know that our users around the world love to sing along to their favorite songs, so we wanted to develop this offering even further to enable even more engagement with music through song.”

“It’s really fun,” emphasizes Schusser, “our customers will love it.”

More than presenting the main lyrics on the screen as it can now, Apple Music Sing will optionally show “multiple lyrics views”. It allows users to “take charge, perform duets, sing backups, and more.”

A new Adjustable Vocals feature allows users to control a song’s vocal levels. The real singer can be silenced enough for the user to take over, or muted enough for that user to perform backing vocals.

The Karaoke feature is not available for the entire Apple Music library. Rather, a “suite of over 50 dedicated companion playlists” will be launched. They will each contain “all the epic songs, duets, choruses and anthems that people around the world have been compelled to sing.”

Apple Music Sing is free for Apple Music subscribers around the world. It will launch later in December and will be available at iPhone, iPadand the Apple TV 4K.
