Archie and Lili now ‘highly unlikely’ to receive royal titles | Royal | News

Under current guidelines, grandchildren of a monarch in the male line (the children of one of the king’s sons) are entitled to a title of “prince” or “princess,” which has led to an argument over Archie and Lili’s titles , or lack thereof.

But this is not necessarily automatic and the decision rests with The King.

One rule, drawn up by King George V after he issued a Letters Patent in 1917, read: “…the grandchildren of the sons of such sovereign in the direct male line (except only the eldest living son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales) shall on all occasions have and enjoy the style and title of the children of the dukes of these our realms.”

It gets all the more complicated because Harry and Meghan are no longer senior royals or even live in the UK.
