Arsenal fans will love Jack Wilshere’s verdict on Richarlison’s signing by Spurs

The Spurs will sign the Brazilian on a deal worth up to £60million, and the official announcement of the club’s fourth summer signing is expected in the coming days.

Richarlison, who reportedly previously turned down a move to Arsenal, will battle for minutes with the likes of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski as Spurs return to the Champions League.

Wilshere is a fan of Richarlison and would have liked to see the player at Arsenal, but feels the Gunners’ current forwards – Eddie Nketiah, Bukayo Saka, Nicolas Pepe and, to be announced, Gabriel Jesus – would keep him away. Mikel Arteta’s strongest eleven.

Wilshere told talk SPORT: “I think he’s the… [Tottenham] squad, sure. He gives them something else.

“I wouldn’t say I’m upset [as an Arsenal fan]† He’s 25, so he’s not young. There comes a point where he has to turn all that potential into something. To be fair, if anyone can do it, it’s probably Antonio Conte.

“So I wouldn’t say I was devastated as an Arsenal fan, but I think he will be one to watch, he could be very, very good.

“Yes [I’d have him at Arsenal]† I don’t think he’ll be in the XI. He would definitely fight for it and be a good part of the squad. But I don’t think he will be in the XI.”
