Arsenal increase interest in Oleksandr Zinchenko as Man City decide Nathan Ake . to keep

The 25-year-old can operate as a fullback, winger, central midfielder and attacking midfielder, and the tactical similarities between Arteta and Guardiola mean he is used to Arsenal’s preferred style of play.

While no deal has yet been struck, there is optimism that Arsenal can bring in Zinchenko as negotiations progress. City will only sell if their valuation – believed to be over £30million – is met.

Arsenal have already invested heavily this summer, spending £85million on Jesus, midfielder Fabio Vieira, goalkeeper Matt Turner and winger Marquinhos.

The arrival of Zinchenko, or any other left-back, would hasten the likely departure of Nuno Tavares, who is a target for a number of clubs in Europe.

Another Arsenal player who has caught the attention of European clubs is centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes, who is believed to be of interest to Juventus.

Telegraph Sport understands, however, that there has been no formal approach to the player by the Italian giants, and it would take a huge fee to even entice Arsenal to sell one of their most consistent performers.

Gabriel has three years left on his current contract, meaning Arsenal are in a strong position in all negotiations.

The will of Bernd Leno, who matters to Fulham, and Lucas Torreira, wanted by Valencia and clubs in Italyare also expected to leave Arsenal in the coming weeks.
