Marseille have signed a deal to sign Arsenal’s left-back Nuno Tavares on a seasonal loan.
The 22-year-old made the move from Benfica to the Gunners last summer, playing second fiddle to Kieran Tierney at the Emirates Stadium.
The North London club brought in a left-back in Oleksandr Zinchenko this summer, which brought more competition to Tavares’ position.
The Portuguese is now on loan to Ligue 1, where Arsenal defender William Saliba played his football last season.
The French club announced the deal in a social media post on Saturday morning, while Arsenal also confirmed the move.
Tavares is one of a number of outgoings expected before the close of the transfer window on September 1.
Fulham have reportedly reached an agreement with The Gunners to sign goalkeeper Bernd Leno, while Lucas Torreira and Hector Bellerin are also expected to leave.
One player who has already left is third-choice stopper Arthur Okwonko, who has been loaned to League Two side Crewe Alexandra.
“It would be good for me to be the first choice here, but I have to work and get myself into the squad,” Okwonko said.
“I want to be as consistent as possible and get games under my belt. With all the training I’ve had, and I’ve also played a few minutes with the Arsenal first team in preseasonI feel ready and sharp.
‘The manager [Mikel Arteta] has always given me confidence and opportunities, and now it’s up to me to grab it, use it and show it.”
“It feels great to be here. I have to thank Arsenal for the opportunity to be here, and especially Crewe for the initial interest,” he added.
“I know this is a great club that wants to develop young players and hopefully we can win a lot of games together. Coming here and playing for points will be a good experience for me.”
