Wigan ax ex-Arsenal ace Kolo

Kolo Toure has been sacked by Wigan – after failing to win any of his NINE games.

The ex-Arsenal defender left his coaching role at Leicester in November 2022 to take up his first management job.

But a torrid run of results means the Latics have already suspended the Ivorian, with the club bottom of the table Championship.

Assistants Kevin Betsy and Ashvir Johal have also left.

Wigan’s CEO Malachy Brannigan said: “First of all I would like to say thank you Bicyclealong with Kevin and Ash, for their efforts during their time at the football club.

“Unfortunately the results on the pitch have not been what we would have liked and as difficult as this decision was, the board felt it necessary to give us the best possible chance to remain a Championship club next season.

“We know that this time of year is a key period for any football club, including ourselves.

“Therefore, we will now work quickly and effectively to ensure that the right person is appointed as the next permanent manager of Wigan Athleticwith the immediate aim of staying in the second tier next season.”
