Sophie Raworth has ended her stint presenting BBC’s Sunday Morning after taking charge of Andrew Marro.

The 54-year-old was a temporary replacement for the veteran journalist and host’s current affairs program, formerly called The Andrew Marr Show.

Sophie took over from Andrew on January 9, after the 62-year-old quit the BBC to work for Globalwhere he currently hosts his own radio show on LBC.

After just over seven months in the role, Sophie wrapped up her final episode today with guests including contenders in the conservative leadership struggle such as Penny Mordaunt and Tom Tugendhat.

In the final minutes of the show, Sophie said goodbye to her viewers, saying, “And that’s it from us here on Sunday morning. The last time you hear this iconic music. And that’s me too.

“When I stepped into Andrew Marr’s show or shoes in January, I never thought we’d be dealing with a… war in Europe and the end of this Boris Johnson era. Extraordinary times.

“It was a privilege to be with you all this time.”

Sophie has had quite a few headline-grabbing moments on Sunday morning, including make a savage dig at Piers Morgan back in April.

Just as she was about to close the show, the outspoken announcer couldn’t resist a cheeky self-promotion.

Addressing the launch of Piers Morgan uncensoredwhich premiered on April 25, he said, “Don’t forget tomorrow night, 8:00 PM.”

Sophie, somewhat surprised by the interruption, replied, “Hold on, I was about to say good luck with your new venture.”

Reflecting on when Piers dramatically walked off the Good Morning Britain set after an on-air collision with weather presenter Alex Beresford, she quipped: ‘Don’t storm this time!’

Sophie joined the BBC in 1992, starting as a news reporter and becoming a presenter on BBC News at Six and BBC News at Ten.

In addition to Sunday Morning, she has also presented Watchdog and Crimewatch.

With her time on Sunday Morning coming to an end, the BBC is looking for a regular presenter.

Meanwhile, the Beeb is busy preparing for a brand new Sunday morning show presented by the former political editor Laura Kuenssberg, which can be seen from September.
