BBC weather: Matt Taylor warns ‘could reach 38C!’ while Heatwave 2 reaches the UK within 24 hours | Weather | News

The main areas affected will be in the south east of England, with London bearing the brunt of the “very humid” air, said weather forecaster Matt Taylor. But as Britons in the UK suffered from “tropical” temperatures last night, it doesn’t seem likely that the heat will ease today or into the weekend. Mr Taylor predicted temperatures could reach 31 degrees before culminating in “round two” over the weekend and next week. Taylor later added that the “potential” in Britain could see temperatures as high as 38°C next week, breaking the British record.

Mr Taylor said: “For parts of the South East the weather is very humid. It’s been a tropical night. In the past hour we have seen temperatures around 22 and 23 degrees.

“But you can see the difference in temperature from north to south. The fresher conditions, much more pleasant heat, are forcing their way south.

‘We still have this cloud zone drifting to the southeast corner; there may be a few showers throughout the day.

“The temperatures here will still be around 29, 30, maybe even 31 degrees. But the further north you go, the more comfortable it gets.

“A lot of sun in England and Wales. Certainly more than yesterday. But today some showers are moving through Northern Ireland and central and western Scotland.

“The wind is still strong in the northwest with temperatures around 14 to 15 degrees. Quite a few degrees cooler than we will see in South East England.

“Now there’s some of that slightly more comfortable air coming to the southeast tonight. Some of that warm air, around 16 to 17 degrees.

“Different, clear skies. Just a few showers overnight in Scotland. We will see temperatures around 10 to 12 degrees Celsius more often.
