Beauden Barrett’s brain fade costs Blues a certain try against Chiefs in Super Rugby Pacific derby

Will this go down as the biggest bombed attempt of the season?

Beauden Barrett has a shocking start to the Super Rugby Pacific blockbuster between the Chiefs and Blues in Hamilton.

On a slippery night in the drizzle at FMG Stadium Waikato, the veteran All Blacks playmaker came forward in the 14th minute for what would have been the visitors’ second try, in the 14th minute, only to have a hash of to make the finish line and on the dead ball line.

Having sent a terrible conversion attempt low and wide not long before, it looked like the shaft was still on the No. 10’s mind as he broke through close to the line, but tried to run closer to the sticks.

With Chiefs lock Tupou Vaa’i never giving up on the chase and diving to his ankles, Barrett will curse himself for being a step or two too greedy as he put his boots on the white paint while diving to ground the ball to get.

While the Blues made up for it by scoring a few minutes later through Caleb Clarke, Barrett’s night showed no sign of improvement as he then sent another terrible effort off the tee, again low and wide.
