Below deck Mediterranean star Courtney Veale has admitted that her brief ‘romance’ with Mzi ‘Zee’ Dampers wasn’t quite what it seemed.
Viewers will be well aware that a boatmance or two pops up in any charter season as the crew spends their time on board getting up close.
Since the very first series of the OG Bravo franchise – which kicked off in 2013 – we’ve inevitably seen sparks fly between the cast, due to the narrow spaces they’re thrown into for weeks on end.
However, in a new interview, the returning sailor confessed to that the flirted with her boyfriend in season six was much quieter than cameras led fans to believe.
During a performance on Fubar Radio has access to all areasShe told hosts Bobby Norris and Stephen “With me and Zee it was just a tequila romance and I knew it, just one night.
“The next day I actually spoke to him and said, ‘I think we’re just friends,’ but obviously they didn’t use that bit, they used the bits where we dance and flirt while we’re at work.” And by the end of the season, we were in this whole romance!”
She spilled the beans on seemingly romantic scenes between the couple and insisted there was a lot of cheating going on behind the scenes.
They had asked Zee when he was drunk, “I assume you don’t want to buy Courtney flowers?” and he had drunkenly said, “Oh yes maybe”.
“The next moment, two days later, they say, ‘If you sit down for your meal tonight, flowers will be delivered to the table. 12 red roses for Courtney,” and he was like, “What?!”‘
“They absolutely love playing with the edits and they’re very smart at what they do,” she added.
“They’ve definitely edited it so that if they don’t have a romance, they make one.” Luckily me and Zee were pretty good friends so it was fine. I think he probably felt a little embarrassed.’
Despite the awkward scenes, the two have remained good friends and were reunited on our screens once again in season seven – when Courteney stepped aboard to help the deck team after a team shuffle.
Her efforts impressed boatswain Storm Smith, and he promptly promoted her to lead the deckhand midway through the series.
