BEYONCE has been slapped by singer Kelis who claims the pop star “stole” one of her songs.
Kelis, who is known for her song Milkshake, slammed Beyonce and Pharrell Williams in a furious online tirade
While Beyonce, 40, is releasing her seventh studio album, Renaissance, Kelis, 42, discussed one of the new songs.
Beyonce created the song in question, Energy, in collaboration with Pharrell, 49, and the track samples from Kelis’ 1999 release Get Along With You,
However, Kelis was furious that she didn’t get a warning from Beyonce, only to discover that she had used her song after a fan account posted about the sample.
Although she sang on the 1999 song, Kelis received no writing credit.
The song was even written by Pharrell himself in collaboration with Chad Hugo.
But that doesn’t mean Kelis wasn’t furious about the release of Beyonce’s new tune.
In a social media video, the New York singer lashed out at Beyonce, Pharrell and the team around them.
“I know what I own and what I don’t own, I also know the lies that were told,” said the R&B singer.
“I also know the things that have been stolen.
“Publication was stolen, people were scammed out of rights – it happens all the time.”
‘NO SOUL’
She continued: “Some people in this business have no soul or integrity and they have fooled everyone.”
Kelis appeared to hit Beyonce and Pharrell directly, adding, “My mind is also stunned because the level of disrespect and utter ignorance from all three parties involved is astounding.”
She was especially disappointed that the Destiny’s Child alum had not contacted them, as they have a history of friendship.
“We met, we know each other, we have mutual friends, it’s not difficult, she can contact me,” she said.
However, Kelis’ fans were divided on the matter.
One commented: “Beyoncé didn’t do anything wrong… it sounds like her beef is with Pharrell, not Bey.”
But another disagreed: “People don’t have to make excuses for Beyoncé.
“Just because you’re Beyoncé doesn’t exempt you from this.”
A third agreed: “Because it’s Beyonce, people won’t hold those involved accountable.”
INCLUDE INSPIRATION
It’s not the first time Beyoncé has been accused of squeezing ideas.
Her fans previously called out Lemonade’s hitmaker for similarities between her song Ring the Alarm and Kelis’ Caught out There.
Beyonce and her husband Jay Z were sued in 2020 by Messy May’s estate for using a sample of the rapper’s voice without credit.
The same year, she was sued by clothing designer Dwayne Walker for using his Roc-A-Fella logo in her 2013 music video for Crazy In Love.
Fans have also drawn comparisons between Beyonce’s artistry and the work of Jesy Nelson, Azealia Banks and Britney Spears.
