5G spectrum auctions will continue for a straight fifth day on July 30, 2022. Today was the fourth day where the telcos issued a total of Rs 1,49,855 crore after 23 rounds of bidding. On Day 3, the cumulative bid amount was Rs 1,49,623 crore. Telecoms minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, according to Livemint, a total of 23 bidding rounds had been completed by the end of the fourth day. During the Indian Mobile Congress 2022 curtain raise, Vaishnaw said that the 5G Spectrum Auction has seen a lot of response and thanks the telecom industry for that. Furthermore, the telecoms minister said it was great to see telcos pushing for spectrum for 4G services as well.
At the end of the spectrum auction, Jio will emerge as the bidder who has spent the most money on ether waves in different bands. Each telco had its own strategy. Adani Group’s Adani Data Network offer for a very small amount of spectrum, only intended for 5G. The telcos, on the other hand, have focused on acquiring spectrum to bolster their current operations. Well, the spectrum auctions are still not over. The government will be very happy with the response from the bidders, as it will put a lot of money in the pocket of the DoT (Department of Telecommunications).
When will 5G be launched in India?
Telecom minister previously said telcos would launch 5G services in India within the current fiscal year, which is also a good thing for India. But the initial launch would only target select cities and places. The telcos have both the mid-band and mmWave (millimeter wavelength) frequencies to offer 5G services to both businesses and consumers. Each telco will follow a different strategy to launch 5G services in India. We’ll have to wait and see who launches 5G first.
