Big tip fuel tax can be reduced AGAIN as Rishi Sunak admits filling stations do not give 5p cut to drivers

RISHI Sunak was urged by Tory backbenchers last night to reduce 25p of fuel tax to alleviate the cost of living crisis.

The chancellor told MPs he would consider proposals for another temporary reduction in fuel taxes.

Tory MP Philip Davies told Mr Sunak he should follow Germany – which has reduced fuel taxes by 25p for the next three months.

Co-conservative Esther McVey told the chancellor that her 5p rebate, introduced earlier this year, “did not really hit the edges” and called for a 20p reduction.

She said “It will make a big difference in my patch.”

“It is now an urgent situation. The Prime Minister alluded to action, but we need more than tips.

“Pressure to enforce price transparency and a tax cut will be a step in the right direction.”

Howard Cox, of FairfuelUK, said: “Small independent retailers are on tight margins and restrictive contracts controlled by ruthless oil companies, refineries and wholesalers.”
