Joe Turkel died at the age of 94.
Turkel was best known for playing the bartender in the shining of the horror / mystery series and for his role in Blade Runner.
His representative confirmed the sad news of his death and said he had died at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica.
Chris Carbo tells People: “Joe was a lightning bolt and he was very enthusiastic about talking about movies, baseball, and life. Every time we talked, he immediately made me laugh with a bad joke.”
Carbo added: “He was very proud to be the only actor to screen Stanley Kubrick’s three films and loved to share his experience with his family, friends and fans.”
He went on to describe the actor as an “Old Brooklyn man” who loves to spend time with his brother, two sons and grandchildren.
Turkel’s impressive career boasts over 140 acting credits on both television and film.
In addition to his most iconic role, he has also appeared in The Lone Ranger, SWAT, Andy Griffith Show, Miami Vice, Madness, and the Path of Glory.
