‘Mother, 42, and daughter, 17’ are found dead in £620,000 home ‘they were renovating’ near four-star holiday park in the New Forest – as police investigate deaths

The 42-year-old woman and 17-year-old girl found dead in a £620,000 home in the New Forest were mother and daughter, neighbors said today.
Homeowners on the “sleepy” country road say they are “shocked” by the double death.
The couple did not stay at the house and often visited to make renovations, neighbors said.
Another young woman, reportedly another of the mother’s daughters, was seen “wrapped in a blanket” with police officers around her after the December 29 incident.
The property where the two victims were found is a five-bedroom converted bungalow opposite a ‘luxury’ holiday park in Downton, Milford on Sea.
The large detached property was sold in January 2022 for £620,000, the records show.
Neighbors Debbie Smith, a 51-year-old hairdresser, and Tom Stockwell, a 50-year-old builder, said they saw three ambulances and about 25 police officers on the scene, but no police tape had been put up around the house.

Mrs Smith said, ‘It’s so quiet here – nothing is happening here. It’s very sleepy.
“The family bought the house last January, but didn’t actually move in.
“They were renovating and they had done a lot to the house.
“We know they talked to another neighbor on Christmas Eve.
‘On the day [of the deaths]we saw another daughter wrapped in a blanket outside at the police station.
“It’s incredibly sad, I can’t stop thinking about it. Just horrific.
“We don’t really know anything about what happened.
“When something like this happens, you just worry a little.”
The neighbors said they did not know how the mother and daughter died, nor did they know their names.

A spokesman for Hampshire Police said: ‘We were called just after 1.45pm on Thursday 29 December to report the bodies of a 17-year-old girl and a 42-year-old woman found at an address in Shorefield Road, Downton .
The deaths are being treated as unexplained, but not suspicious.
“Their family has been notified and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
