The body has been located after reports of a person getting into trouble in the water at Salford Quays, police said.
Law enforcement were called to the emergency on the quays at Media City around 6:15 pm and emergency services and specialized search teams were dispatched to the scene.
About four hours later, Greater Manchester Police Department said a body had been found, but had not yet been recovered from the water.
The police said in a brief statement that although formal identification has not yet taken place, they believe it is the person emergency services were looking for.
“Their family has been kept informed by our officers and supported during this extremely painful time,” the statement added.
No further information was released.
