Anyone who has purchased The Little Bone Broth Company products (any batch, regardless of date) is advised to return them for a refund.
New Zealand Food Safety (NZFS) said it is recalling the broths as a precaution because there is insufficient evidence the company is properly managing food safety hazards.
“The concern with these broths is that the company has produced them without full information about the food process controls. This means there is incomplete evidence that food safety risks are being properly managed,” said Vincent Arbuckle, deputy director-general of NZFS.
“While there have been no reports of related illnesses, we are taking this precaution because broth produced without proper food safety precautions can make people sick.”
The product range consisted of chicken broth, beef broth and chicken broth with green Thai curry.
“These products should not be eaten,” Arbuckle said. “You can return them to the store where you bought them and get your money back. If that's not possible, throw them away.”
Anyone who has used one of the products and has health complaints can contact Healthline on 0800 61 11 16.
The products have been removed from supermarket shelves, and retailers who sold them were required to post a recall notice for a month.
According to NZFS, no stock was exported.
