Potter was hired on a five-year contract worth £12 million a year after Champions League winning manager Thomas Tuchel was suspended after a bad start to the season.

However, ex-boss of Brighton Potter failed to turn the Chelsea club’s fortunes around with the Blues falling to 11th in the top flight following their 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Bruno Salter will take charge of the West Londoners until a permanent successor to Potter is appointed.

And Sun Sport understands that Bruno could take charge as interim head coach for the rest of the campaign.

Todd Boehly and the rest of Chelsea’s top flight have accepted not qualifying for next season’s Champions League via a top four finish – although they are preparing to meet Real Madrid in the quarter-finals next week.

Therefore, they are willing to wait and embark on a lengthy and extensive search for a new man to take charge and lead them for the long haul.

German coach Nagelsmannwhich was surprising fired by Bayern Munich last month and replaced by Tuchel, is the early bookies’ favorite for the job.

The 35-year-old joined Bayern from RB Leipzig in 2021 and won the league by eight points in his first season in charge, leading them to back-to-back German Supercup victories.

Reports have also claimed that Chelsea’s new technical director Christian Vivell is pushing for him to take charge.

Former Spurs and PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino is another favorite with the bookmakers and remains a free agent after being sacked by Paris Saint-Germain in June 2022 despite leading them to the French title.

Other candidates include former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidaneformer national coach of Spain Louis Enrique, Oliver Glasner from Eintracht Frankfurt, and even a two-time former Blues boss Jose Mourinhowho is now with Roma.

Potter, 47, leaves Chelsea with the WORST record of any Blues manager in the Premier League era, fired after a horror run.

The former Brighton boss leaves Stamford Bridge with the worst points per game of any Blues bosses who have played over 20 games – averaging 1.27 points per game.

Potter won seven of his 22 league matches in charge of the club, drawing seven and losing eight.

That translated to the Blues collecting only 28 points from an available 66.

Potter was in charge of Chelsea for a total of 31 games, winning 12, drawing eight and losing eleven.

That poor record matched an average of 1.42 points per game for the five-time Premier League winners.
