Border Force to strike at Heathrow during last weekend of summer holidays

Good evening. Hundreds of Border Force staff are walking out of Heathrow on the last weekend of the summer holidays – and train drivers are also going on strike, despite a deal on great pay.

Another investigation found that the death of a 13-year-old girl was due to Costa Coffee staff failing to follow allergy procedures.

Border Force to strike at Heathrow during last weekend of summer holidays

Hundreds of passport control employees are walking out of the UK's busiest airport between 31 August and 3 September – the last weekend of the summer holidays for families with school children. The Public and Commercial Services Union said its Border Force members were striking over changes to rosters and working practices.

Elsewhere, members of the machinists' union announced plans to strike every weekend for the next three monthsLNER drivers have been given a 14 per cent pay rise by the government, but the renewed campaign centres on managers who were given a £2,000 bonus for working shifts during previous strikes.

The strikes will take place every Saturday and Sunday from August 31 to November 10 – total 22 days.

Death of 13-year-old girl caused by Costa staff 'failure to follow allergy procedure'

Hanna Jacobs, who had a severe dairy allergydied within hours of drinking a hot chocolate on February 8 last year, East London Coroner's Court was told. Abimbola Duyile, Hannah's mother, said treating allergen safety training as a “tick-the-box exercise” was not acceptable.

Israel 'expects' UK to join possible attack on Iran

The comments came from David Lammy, the Foreign Secretary, visited Jerusalem on Friday to meet his French and Israeli counterparts. Israel Katz told Mr Lammy and Stephane Sejourne that if Iran were to attack Israel, “we expect the coalition to join Israel, not only in defense, but also in striking key targets in Iran.”
