Boris Johnson as leader of the Tories would reduce the Labor majority by huge amounts – opinion poll | Politics | News

Boris Johnson would cut Labour's majority by 114 seats if he were to lead the election Tories according to new polls in the general election.

The Deltapoll survey shows that Labor is in the lead with 45% to 23% Rishi Sunak'S Conservativeswith Reform UK at 10%.

It would mean a resounding majority for Sir Keir Starmer of 340 seats, with the Tories with only 77 left.

But under Mr Johnson the divide between Labor and the… Conservatives would drop to 16 points, with Nigel Farage-related reforms reduced to 6%.

However, it would still give Sir Keir a large majority of 226 seats.

Joe Twyman, co-founder and director of Deltapoll, said: “Today's Mail on Sunday results demonstrate the scale of the challenge facing the Conservatives to stay in power.

'The last decade of British politics has often shown that nothing can be ruled out, but the current picture means that even achieving a hung parliament will require change far beyond anything seen in a general election campaign in this country .

“Facing the difficult reality Rishi Sunak and his side is that these latest figures are simply the continuation of a long-term trend.”

Mr Johnson led the Tories to a landslide victory in the 2019 election, winning a slew of seats in Labour's traditional heartland, the Red Wall.

But he was forced out of Number 10 in 2022 after a series of scandals, including the Partygate row.

The poll shows the election mountain Sunak has to climb after he stunned Westminster last week by calling a surprise summer general election on July 4.

Deltapoll interviewed 1,517 adults for the poll between Thursday and Saturday.
