As Boris Johnsonn will remain in power as acting Prime Minister in the interim period for the Conservative elections, speculation about his political future is mounting. Former Transport Secretary Mary Creagh believes Boris Johnson will make a “dramatic comeback”. According to her theory, Mr. Johnson will wait for theā¦ labour party to seize power and then step in as a candidate for the premiership.
Speaking to Good Morning Britain, Ms Creagh said: “So I think Johnson has an eye on history and his great hero is Churchill. He said he wants to stay. That could be due to personal circumstances or financial circumstances.
“But I also think he has a comeback in mind. I think he’s waiting for the next person – whoever it is – of these, a few dozen people, the wannabes, who want to come in now.
“He’s waiting for them to come in, to lose the next election to bring Labor to power. And then he’ll make a dramatic comeback like Churchill did.”
After Winston Churchill stepped down as Prime Minister in 1945, Labor leader Winston Church made a dramatic comeback in 1951 and became Prime Minister again until his later resignation in 1955.
Against Creagh’s theory, Iain Dale replied, “Are you going to write a political novel or something? I mean, it’s ridiculous.”
Mr Creagh hit back: “That’s what happened to Churchill.”
Winston Churchill was forced to resign as Prime Minister in 1945 after his party suffered an electoral loss to Clement Attlee’s Labor Party.
He then became the leader of the opposition until 1951 when the Conservative Party won the general election.
