The Prime Minister paid a visit to RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire on Thursday to inspect a Quick Reaction Alert station.

Often described as a misfit, Johnson donned a military uniform as he strode toward a Typhoon fighter, much like actor Tom Cruise’s character Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in the blockbuster movies.

Others said he looked like President George W. Bush prior to his infamous “mission accomplished” speech in 2003

Johnson, who will step down as prime minister on September 6, is hosting a private farewell luncheon at Checkers on Sunday, hours before the second TV Tory leadership debate.

With the conservative race descending into bitter infighting, some believe Johnson is already considering a comeback.

Deputy Labor leader Angela Rayner criticized Johnson for missing a vital COBRA committee meeting in preparation for this week’s 41C heatwave.

She said: “He is back to his old tricks of skipping COBRA meetings. Where is the plan for the delivery of essential services and how to keep people safe at work, on transport, in schools, hospitals and care homes?

“The public will not be confident that this zombie government is responding quickly and decisively to this national emergency as this disgraceful prime minister prepares to party while Britain cooks. If he still can’t take the responsibility of the job, he must leave now.”

A No10 spokesperson said Sunday’s party in Checkers, Bucks, was a “private event with no tax dollars spent”, but declined to say who was invited.
