Boris Johnson will NOT resign as ‘defiant’ PM rejects cabinet demands to resign | Politics | News

A high-ranking government source said the prime minister is “fighting on” despite a slew of MPs quitting in protest at his leadership.

Starring members of his top squad tonight, Mr Johnson told his cabinet that his resignation would mean the end of the Tory party, with no chance of winning the next general election.

Home Secretary Priti Patel, Home Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps, Northern Ireland Secretary Brandon Lewis and Wales Secretary Simon Hart were among those urging him to give up and quit to act.

It is even suggested that Nadhim Zahawi, who was only appointed chancellor on Tuesday, was one of the participants in the confrontation with Johnson.

Supporters, including Culture Minister Nadine Dorries and Brexit Chances Minister Jacob Rees-Mogg, however, rallied behind the Prime Minister in his bid to remain at number 10.

When asked, when she left Downing Street, if she still supports the Prime Minister, Ms Dorries said: “Absolutely”.

Asked if others still support him, she added: “Oh yes”.
