This is despite the fact that a 27-year-old man was suspected of having a broken jaw early in the hold-ban battle with three-time champion Briedis.

The contest ended 10 minutes before midnight on Saturday as the operator overcame the injury and won.

Briedis hit the operator during the match, only losing to Oleksandr Usyk in his 29-round professional career.

One of his punches seemed to knock out the operating mouthguard and broke his jaw.

And in the tenth round, Briedis’s punch lost the operator’s leg.

The 27-year-old managed to hit himself early in the fight and appeared to have broken Briedis’s nose in the fourth round.

But in front of his home crowd on the Gold Coast, the new World Champion became a soldier to unanimously win at points 116-112, 115-113, 116-112.

The operator was reportedly unable to speak in a post-combat interview and eventually left the ring for medical treatment.
