Korben White left his classmates in awe with his gorgeous prom outfit inspired by Billy PorterOscars look of 2019.
The 16-year-old Norfolk teenager wore a sparkly red tuxedo dress at his recent prom and was greeted with cheers by his classmates on arrival.
Photos shared by his mother went viral online after she posted them to her social media and quickly received an incredible response.
On Thursday Korben appeared on This morning with his mother Nina to talk about the reception his dress received along with hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.
Korben told the couple, “I’ve always been feminine. Dressing up in my cousins’ dresses, playing with Barbies… I just knew I wanted to wear a dress when it came to the prom.”
His mom explained how they were feeling leading up to his big day and why it was so important to her to choose an outfit that suited her son perfectly.
She shared with them: ‘We were really excited, I wanted to make it special for him, to show who he is and that he is true to himself.
“We gave him the suit and took him to the prom, and the most amazing thing for me, as a parent, is when he got out of the car, the reaction of all his friends at school.”
When Dermot asked him how it was, she replied, “They cheered, they all cheered and they all clapped. It was full of acceptance.
“It just means so much because there are children who have no support.
“It’s so important to me that we let our kids be who they are. I believe if you let your kids be who they are, you’ll never get anything but their bet.”
She went on to say she’s soon “so proud” of her, excitedly telling the hosts he’s “Living the dream.”
Korben’s outfit consisted of a red sequined tuxedo top half, with a floating skirt on the bottom half.
He completed the outfit with a silk bow tie, a red and gold clutch and a gold tiara.
When asked if he was surprised by the response, Dermot said: ‘Yes, I’m so blessed to have such supportive friends and family, so it was great to be accepted.
“To be a regular guy in a dress was great and shows you don’t have to be feminine or masculine.”
