Two dancers from boy band Mirror were hit yesterday during a performance by a gigantic LED screen that fell from the ceiling. The screen came on stage at the Hong-Kong Colosseum, during the band’s first performance in the venue. Images show that the screen comes loose above the unconscious dancers.
When it fell, a man moved in its path and was crushed. Another dancer, who appeared to be coming to the rescue of his friend, was also injured when the screen tilted.
Thousands of fans in the audience could be heard screaming as chaos ensued. Two dancers were injured in the incident, according to Dim Sum Daily.
One reportedly suffered a head injury but was in stable condition; the other suffered a neck injury and is reportedly in serious condition. The publication reported that they were conscious and taken to hospital, along with three people from the public.
The two injured performers were dancers from the 12-piece boy band, who took part in a concert series called “MIRROR.WEARE” at the Colosseum.
The Colosseum is a frequent concert venue that has become known as the city’s mecca for canto-pop according to Variety magazine. Mirror’s concert series at the Hong Kong Coliseum began on July 25 and would have a total of 12 shows through August 5.
Further concerts at the venue have been suspended until the stage design and mechanical structures are proven to be safe.
A witness told Variety: “I’ve never felt so awful going to a concert. Walking out of the Colosseum felt like I was leaving a funeral home. It was gloomy, nobody spoke.

“Some of the other girls in the audience were crying. Another friend, who is a mother, wondered why such a horrible, unacceptable incident could happen in Hong Kong, at the Colosseum.”
The accident caused public outcry, with fans and industry insiders condemning the concert organizers for not giving enough time for a site check and rehearsal, and ignoring the safety of the performers.
News reporter Ezra Cheung shared a clip of the incident on Twitter.
His post said: “A terrible accident broke out when a singing and dancing boy band from Hong Kong gave their first concert, in which at least two dancers were injured. Both were conscious when they were sent to the hospital.”
Concert organizers Music Nation and MakerVille said in a statement that they regret the accident and expressed concern for the two injured performers and said they would support the victims. The companies also promised to investigate the cause of the incident.
