Brandon Lewis stops and tells PM he’s passed ‘the point of no return’

BRandon Lewis has stepped down as Secretary of Northern Ireland.

He is the fourth minister to leave the cabinet in the past 36 hours.

In a letter of resignation on Twitter, Lewis told Boris Johnson that until now he had “given you and those around you the benefit of the doubt”.

“I have gone out and defended this government both publicly and privately,” he said.

“But we are now past the point of no return. I cannot sacrifice my personal integrity to defend things as they are. It is clear that our party, parliamentary colleagues, volunteers and the whole country deserve better.”
