SAO PAULO (AP) – The head of the Brazilian state-owned bank Caixa Economica Federal resigned on Wednesday amid a * harassment investigation against him.
The Metropolis website reported on Tuesday that prosecutors are investigating allegations by at least five staff members against Pedro Guimarães, who is a close ally of President Jair Bolsonaro. The case was sealed, according to Brazilian media.
“I have to walk away at this moment so that I do not weaken the collection of achievements that should not belong to me personally” at Caixa, Guimarães said in a statement, adding he has Bolsonaro’s support on “every hour” he works .
Caixa is a key bank for Brazil as it pays for many government handouts.
The case is another blow to Bolsonaro, who follows former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the poll as they head to the October elections.
