Brexit news: small business handed over reins of £70bn UK Net Zero contract | Science | News

Friends of the Earth, ClientEarth, Good Law Project and environmentalist Jo Wheatley succeeded in amending the Climate Change Act 2008 after alleging that the government had illegally failed to adopt the policies needed to achieve its promised emissions reductions.

Sam Hunter Jones, senior attorney at ClientEarth, said: “This decision is a breakthrough in the fight against climate slowdown and inaction. It forces the government to create climate plans that will actually address the crisis.”

While it appears the government is paying more attention to the delivery of specific policies to help every net zero in providing the contract to the small Cornish company, the move has raised some eyebrows.

This is due to the size of the consultancy, which specializes in education.

Best for Britain, a multi-party advocacy group, tweeted: “Er. A small Cornish consultancy with assets of just £350k, which appears to specialize in education, has just been awarded a £70bn government contract to complete the transition from the UK public sector to net zero.”

Jo Maugham Director of the Good Law Project, which was part of the group that forced change in the government’s climate policy, tweeted, “This can’t be true, can it?”
