Brian Brobbey rejects Man Utd transfer after Erik ten Hag talks and is ready to go to Ajax | american football

RB Leipzig striker Brian Brobbey has a transfer to . turned down Manchester Unitedaccording to reports in the Netherlands.

The 20-year-old was loaned to in the second half of last season Ajax and thrived under Erik ten Hag with seven goals in 13 appearances.

Last week reports claimed that Ten Hag was keen that United would hijack Ajax’s deal to allow Brobbey to switch permanently this summer.

But according to The TelegraphBrobbey personally called Ten Hag to tell him that he prefers a return to Ajax over a switch to United.

The report claims Brobbey has signed a five-year contract with Ajax, while the Dutch champions will have to pay around €17 million (£14.4 million) for the striker.

Brobbey initially made it through Ajax’s youth academy before being sold to RB Leipzig last year and returned to the Dutch club in December after struggling to impress in the Bundesliga.

Brobbey joked in April about following Ten Hag to Old Trafford.

“I am very happy for him and he really deserves it after everything he has done for Ajax,” said Brobbey.

“As long as he takes me in two years… no, no… just kidding, kidding!”

United, meanwhile, are still trying to sign Frenkie de Jong, but the midfielder has now joined Barcelona for their pre-season tour of the United States.

United have agreed to pay €75 million (£63.7 million) upfront plus a further €10 million (£8.5 million) in add-ons, but De Jong plans to stay with Barcelona.

The 25-year-old is also unwilling to leave until Barca have paid him his outstanding wage, which is more than €20 million.
