Bridgerton has turned out to be a huge hit for Netflix and it has become so big that it even influences Julia Quinn’s books.
The author — whose novels have been adapted for the beloved show — took inspiration from the series itself and is collaborating with Shonda Rhimes on a Queen Charlotte prequel atop the upcoming spin-off†
The prequel will focus on the character – who doesn’t appear in the nbook series but is played by Golda Rosheuvel in the main show – and her “rise to fame and power,” telling the story of how her marriage to King George ” sparked both a great love story and a societal shift.”
While Netflix is working on the spin-off show and expanding the world on the screen, Quinn and Rhimes are collaborating on a novel of the series.
The author said in a statement: “Bringing Bridgerton from book to screen has been fascinating for me to watch, and it’s such an exciting challenge for me to take it the other way, this time to translate Shonda’s brilliant vision.” in a novel.
“I am especially delighted to have the opportunity to write about Queen Charlotte, who does not appear in the original novels.
“Her character—and Golda Rosheuvel’s brilliant portrayal of her—was a tour de force, and I think readers will love the chance to get to know her better.”
Meanwhile, Rhimes described the character as so “touching” to tinker on screen, and she’s looking forward to introducing more of Queen Charlotte to readers and streamers alike.
She added: “Queen Charlotte was such a touching character to write and now having the opportunity to work with Julia to turn this story into a book is such an exciting opportunity.
“I can’t wait for fans of this universe to read the story of a character who resonates so deeply with our audience.”
No title or release date has been set at this time, but publisher WilliamMorrow/Avon confirmed that “the book will be timed to the series’ release on Netflix.”
In addition to the third major Bridgerton series, Rhimes will be behind the spin-off, in which Rosheuvel will reprise her role alongside Ruth Gemmell (Lady Violet Bridgerton) and Adjoa Andoh (Lady Agatha Danbury).
Bridgerton is available to stream on Netflix.
