Spence wants Tottenham moved

Djed Spence has asked to leave Middlesbrough amid talks over a transfer to Tottenham.

Spurs were in talks over a deal for the highly regarded English u.21 player as Antonio Conte wants to upgrade his options as a right winger.

Spence borrowed from Nottingham Forest last term, helping them end their 23-year Premier League relegation via play-offs, but has since returned to parent club Middlesbrough.

Tottenham and Boro remain far apart in their respective valuations of the player, with the Championship kit allegedly claiming almost £ 20 million.

And Boro boss Chris Wilder has admitted that Spence has made his desire to move clear, but insists the deal should make financial sense to them.

“If nothing happens to Djed, then he is our player and he will be back for the preseason,” he told the Northern Echo. From my point of view, negotiations between Kieran (Scott), Neil (Bausor), Steve (Gibson) and Tottenham remain between Kieran, Neil, Steve and Tottenham.

“If the transaction is not done, we will see where we go from there. Did I get an input in it? Yes, 100 percent. The boy obviously does not want to come back here, with which I have absolutely no problem. He obviously sees his future away from here, and he had a brilliant season last season.

“We expect that agreement to take place, but if it does not happen, then he is our player. From a club point of view, the deal should be right. We are not trying to stand in the way of anyone. I have never done this as a manager, and I have had many situations where opportunities for players have come up.

“But there are always three parties involved in any transaction, and it must be right for all three parties to make it happen. It should be right for the player, and of course it sounds from the sounds like this (Spurs) is where he wants to go. Tottenham want him, and we are prepared for that. But it must also be right for us. It all has to get married. ”
