BTS rapper J-Hope has admitted he feels ‘pressure’ and a ‘sense of responsibility’ after he first member of the group to go solo after the group took a hiatus earlier this year.
J-Hope, 28, whose real name is Jung Ho-seok, released his debut solo album, Jack in the Box, today and has admitted he is feeling the nerves.
βIt’s half nervous, half excitement. Because I’m the first to go solo, I feel a sense of responsibility and there’s definitely some pressure too.’
He continued, “Jack in the Box is only filled with things I personally wanted to do, almost to the point of worrying me, ‘Did I focus too much on just what I wanted to do?'”
Speak with rolling stone magazine, J-Hope said he had previously shown the album to fellow BTS member RM, to make sure Jack in the Box was up to standard.
‘The first person I shared the album with is always the same for me. I always share with RM first,” he said.
‘I could have shared it with’ [BTS member] Suga, but he likes to be very respectful about the process. He said to me: ‘I’ll listen to it when it comes out’.’
Despite being nervous, J-Hope expressed his excitement about finally having the album available to the public.
‘I think that’s where half the nervousness comes from. This album has a lot of meaning to me, and most importantly, I feel proud and excited for it to come out.β
J-Hope also got some encouraging words from his bandmates when they heard the album for the first time, joking “had a bit of a brian freeze” because of the positive response.
He also revealed that his solo venture has inspired some other members of the group to work on their own projects: “For Jung Kook, it was really funny. After hearing the album, he suddenly went to his studio. I think he felt the motivation to start.’
BTS recently announced that they partner with Disney Plus for a selection of docuseries and recorded concerts.
Jack in the Box is out now.
