Bus Éireann services have been interrupted on some routes today, mainly affecting passengers in Galway, Mayo and Sligo

A number of Bus Éireann services have been canceled today due to “operational issues”, including driver recruitment.

Most affected routes are in Galway, Mayo and Sligo counties. Some services between Dublin Airport and Waterford and Wexford counties have also been cancelled.

Passengers are requested to check the Bus Éireann website and Twitter account for the latest updates.

In a statement to Independent.ie, the company said it has “unfortunately” informed customers today about some service disruptions. Bus Éireann said it is “actively” recruiting drivers across the country.

“Usually, service issues arise from a number of factors, depending on the location. This can include challenges in driver recruitment, frequent driver unavailability at short notice and more recently difficulties in hiring contractors for support services. This has more impact on relatively smaller depots,” the statement said.

“We understand and regret the impact of cancellations on customers. In most cases, advance notice of cancellation is available the day before.

“For people who have pre-booked their Expressway tickets, they will also be notified via a direct email sent to them, usually well in advance of travel, allowing them to make alternative arrangements and transfer to other services that operate on either side of their intended departure.

“We strongly encourage customers to book ahead with expressway.ie to take advantage of a guaranteed seat and priority boarding.

“Where it is unfortunately necessary to cancel a service, we manage this to minimize the impact on customers, for example temporarily reducing the frequency on higher frequency routes and doing everything we can to ensure the last shift of the day.”
