BYD sold more than 1.8 million electric vehicles (EVs) last year. As recently announced, BYD aims to sell 3.6 million EVs this year. This would be an incredible achievement if the company succeeded. While the majority of these sales will be domestic, a significant portion of these sales are expected to come from BYD’s accelerated efforts to enter new markets around the world.
BYD is on a roll and is now announcing entry into new markets on a seemingly weekly basis. BYD has launched a number of its new BEVs in markets around the world, including India, Thailand, Australia, Austria, New Zealand, Cambodia, Nepal, Laos, Singapore and more. This shows that a lot of planning has gone into this new aggressive export drive.
One of the things that help BYD to gain faster access to new markets is strategic partnerships with local entities. In Thailand, for example, BYD works with Rever Automotive. In Belgium and Luxembourg BYD works together with Inchcape. In England, BYD works together with Pendragon.
On Friday, March 31, Spain became the latest market to receive BYD BEVs. BYD launches in Spain with 3 BEVs from its range. These three are the ATTO 3, the Han and the Tang SUV.
The BYD ATTO 3 is built on the all-new BYD e-Platform 3.0, designed exclusively for pure electric vehicles. BYD says this: “E-Platform 3.0, which fully exploits the benefits of intelligence, efficiency, safety and aesthetics, aims to advance the performance of NEVs in terms of safety and low-temperature driving range, as well as providing intelligent driving experiences. improve, to more efficient and safer new intelligent EVs.”
BYD also notes that the ATTO 3 is a spacious C-segment SUV that combines modern aesthetics with exceptional intelligence and efficiency resulting from breakthrough electric vehicle technology and smart connectivity. It was designed by Wolfgang Egger with the European customer in mind, offering a “stylish, fun-inspired choice”, complete with very high standard equipment.
The ATTO 3 is equipped with the 60.48 kWh BYD blade battery with a range of 420 km (WLTP combined) and DC charging (30-80% state of charge in just 29 minutes). BYD’s ATTO 3 has achieved a 5-star rating in the Euro NCAP safety tests.

BYD collaborates with several companies in Spain, including Astara, Quadis and Caetano Retail Spain. BYD pioneer stores are opening soon in Barcelona and Madrid. It’s really exciting to see BYD announce another new market for its BEVs. I’m looking forward to seeing how well these models do in Spain. I hope BYD will also add the Dolphin to the Spanish market – and to all other countries in Europe.

I don’t like paywalls. You don’t like paywalls. Who likes paywalls? Here at CleanTechnica, we implemented a restricted paywall for a while, but it always felt wrong – and it was always hard to decide what to put behind that. In theory, your most exclusive and best content goes behind a paywall. But then less people will read it! We just don’t like paywalls so we decided to drop ours.
Unfortunately, the media business is still a hard, cut-throat business with small margins. It’s a never-ending Olympic challenge to stay afloat or maybe even — gasping for breath – to grow. So …
